Definition of Scenarios; Projection of Anthropogenic Emissions and GHG Absorptions by Sinks for Panama's LTS

Project description

Climate Lead Group supported the development of analytical scenarios and modeling tools to inform Panama’s Inclusive Low-Emission and Climate-Resilient National Socioeconomic Strategy (LTS) toward 2050. The project provided a robust scientific and technical foundation to support public policy and strategic decision-making, helping the country advance its emission reduction goals while strengthening climate resilience. The analysis developed integrated scenarios projecting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals by natural sinks, such as forests and soils, under different socioeconomic and climate conditions. It also assessed mitigation options across key sectors—including energy, transport, agriculture, industry, and waste—evaluating their emission reduction potential and their contribution to inclusive socioeconomic development. These scenarios and models help identify the most effective policies and measures for transitioning to a low-carbon and resilient economy. Through this work, CLG delivered an evidence-based roadmap that integrates mitigation and adaptation considerations for implementing the National Strategy, supporting Panama’s alignment with the Paris Agreement and promoting a transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and inclusive development pathway.
